PDF WRITER
PDF is the prefered format because it is a frozen document that will look and print the same on any computer (generally - there are always exceptions!).
MS Word, MS Publisher, and many other program files look and print differently on different computers. Their files are a set of instructions, rather than a frozen image. Fonts change, pages and lines and paragraphs break in different spots, text boxes collapse, etc. You create a work of art on your computer, but it prints out a mess on another computer!
The solution is to turn your documents into PDFs (Portable Document Files). As Adobe, the creator of PDF, says on their website: “Maintain information integrity — Adobe PDF files look exactly like original documents and preserve source file information — text, drawings, 3D, full-color graphics, photos, and even business logic — regardless of the application used to create them. PDF lets you capture and view robust information — from any application, on any computer system — and share it with anyone around the world.”
But Adobe Acrobat Writer (creates PDFs) sells for $700!
