Brother P-Touch Tapes - Sticking

The P-Touch range is convenient and easy to use. But occasionally, you may find a cartridge sticks.

Really and truly, 99.9% of the time, the sticking is caused by the user pulling on the tape as it exits. This jams the cartridge and starts to de-laminate the remaining label tape inside.

The best way to avoid sticking is to let the tape come out on its own.

If you think the cartridge may be defective you can bring it to us. For $15 our supplier will examine the catridge. If faulty, your $15 will be refunded and the cartridge will be replaced. Otherwise the cartridge will be repaired.

PRINTER & CARTRIDGE ISSUES

CHECK IT

Sometimes equipment and consumables don't seem to function as they should. Your first check should be with the operating manual, to make sure you're using the equipment as designed, and that all parts and consumables are in working order. (If your machine didn't come with a hardcopy manual, there is usually one on CD, included with the packaging, or a link to an online manual).

If the manual doesn't help, the manufacturer's website will have FAQs and help in various support sections, some even linking to consumer forums.

With ink cartridges, manufacturers recommend:

  • Check that any "REMOVE TAB" packing tape is removed
  • That the cartridge is fully clicked in
  • Re-install the cartridge
  • Turn the printer on/off

WARRANTY

Most equipment comes with a warranty that covers manufacturing defects only. The company promises that the equipment is built properly. Most warranties are for one year from date of purchase. Warranties DO NOT cover anything outside of faulty manufacturing. That means if you drop it, spill on it, use the wrong parts or modify it, the warranty is void.

Faulty Cartridges

Consumables often have a 90 day warranty. Again, this is for manufacturing defects only, and does not account for ink expiry. The 90 days means that if the cartridge does not work or stops working, you can get it replaced, provided you have not used very much ink. (If you have used a lot of the ink, manufacturers consider you have gotten good use).

If nothing helps and you think the cartridge may be faulty, you can return it to where you bought it. Make sure you have:

  1. Receipt (many returns are only accepted within 7 days of purchase)
  2. Faulty Cartridge
  3. Sample printout showing the problem (either a printout gone bad, or a test/cleaning page showing the problem)

The retailer will send the cartridge to the manufacturer to be tested. If the cartridge is faulty, a replacement will be sent to you. You can also send the cartridge direct to the manufacturer.
